Absence
“Absence” is part of the “In-Between” series by Magdalena Nowatkowska, which focuses on exploring the space between visible and invisible elements. This particular painting, set in a minimalist but evocative environment, becomes a meditation on what is absent, but at the same time present in an immaterial way.
The composition is dominated by a large, almost monochromatic plane of white, subtly interrupted by elements of contrasting colors. These vertical and horizontal stripes, rectangular forms, standing out against the background of the seemingly insignificant, emphasize the existence of other entities and the importance of the space between them.
This is a study of what is inaccessible to the senses. It is an invocation not only to the physical gaps between objects, but also to the deeper existential gaps between the past, present and future.
The painting provokes reflection on how often we overlook the value and meaning of gaps and gaps in our perception of reality. Seemingly insignificant, yet their role is great.
The author encourages us to observe, stay “somewhere” longer, stop and quite possibly notice what is invisible in our rushing everyday life and consciousness. Because between fullness and emptiness there is a thread that connects our experiences, giving them meaning and form.
