Bodily strings V

“Bodily Strings V” is part of the “Limits” series, in which Magdalena Nowatkowska attempts to reduce the human figure to signs—minimalist, entirely abstract forms. The painting is characterized by a deep green background, against which thin white lines are scattered throughout the composition.

The dominant green hue evokes associations with the tranquility of nature, while simultaneously conveying a sense of detachment and neutrality. A color of balance, it contrasts with the white lines that subtly mark the background with symbolic traces.

By abandoning any literal representation of the human form, the artist reduces it to simple, slender lines. These can be interpreted as bodily structures—traces of presence or fragments of a figure that need not be fully depicted to suggest a human being.
