Summertime
“Summertime” is a painting from the cycle “Limits,” which explores the tensions between structure and the human being, order and intuition, the individual and the system. The work presents a series of stylized figures, simplified almost to the level of symbolic signs—all connected by lines, enclosed within geometric arrangements reminiscent of a schematic map, an architectural plan, or a technical installation.
The composition conveys the impression of a labyrinth, in which the human becomes both an element of the structure and its prisoner. The figures are static, as if frozen in stillness, subject to imposed spatial rules. Motifs such as grids, meshes, cones, and circles give the painting architectural and topographic connotations, while at the same time evoking associations with holiday constructions—summer cottages, terraces, fences, or the infrastructure of vacation resorts.
The title “Summertime” provokes reflection—in a place associated with freedom, nature, and rest, we see an ordered, technical world stripped of liberty. This ironic juxtaposition emphasizes that even spaces of leisure can be structured, rule-bound, and limiting. The painting subtly asks where the limits lie: between relaxation and duty, between the individual and society, between the inside and the outside.
