Bodily strings II
“Bodily strings II” from the “Limits” series by Magdalena Nowatkowska is a piece that continues the theme of boundaries. The yellow ochre accompanied by muted violet immediately evokes positive emotions.
The lines in the paintings, tentatively referred to by the artist as “body images,” are neither parallel nor perfectly straight. Like us. Bulges, bends, they may indicate that the boundaries referred
to in the series are variables.
They are undefined structures
that can evolve depending
on the context or perspective.
The joyful, energetic combination
of colors, vibrating purple strings, evoke the joy of life. Life that flows despite
the existence of limitations, barriers. Similarly to “Bodily strings I,” this work can be perceived as a metaphor for various aspects of human experience, such
as emotions, relationships, strength,
and powerlessness. It also relates
to larger, global issues such as conflict
and peace.
