Score for a Human
The painting “Score for a Human” presents a group of schematic figures arranged against a light background at even intervals, as if inscribed on the pages of a musical composition. Each silhouette is simplified, reduced to thin lines and small heads resembling musical notes. The figures are positioned in different directions—some vertical, others horizontal, still others at right angles—creating a rhythmic, almost mathematical order.
The title suggests that it is the human being who becomes the sound, and the entire group—the notation of an as-yet-unknown melody. In this way, the painting transforms human life into a score in which each person has their place and meaning. The repetition of forms emphasizes that we are all part of a larger whole, while differences in color and orientation highlight the individuality of each figure. The empty background functions like silence in music—like a pause, it provides space and allows focus on the rhythm of the figures.
“Score for a Human” can be interpreted as a reflection on social harmony, on how individuals together create a collective voice. It also raises a question about our lives: are they written like a musical piece in which we play an assigned role, or do we carry within us the possibility of improvisation? The minimalist form of the painting makes the viewer a participant in the composition—inviting them to hear their own melody within it.
