On the path
The painting “On the Path” by Magdalena Nowatkowska, part of the cycle “Limits,” is a subtle yet striking continuation of the artist’s exploration of form, space, and the emotional landscape. This time, she introduces us to a space that—though seemingly static—carries within it the potential for movement, transition, and even transformation.
The composition is concentrated on the right side of the canvas. The main forms—rectangles, arches, and soft lines—arrange themselves into a structure reminiscent of a fragment of a path or an architectural construction. Yet it is not the literalness of the shapes that matters here, but rather the tension between what is familiar and what is imagined. The dominant form can be read as a symbol of passage: between spaces, emotional states, or stages of life.
The title “On the Path” suggests a transitional state, a journey, a moment suspended between a point of departure and a destination. It may serve as a metaphor for life, for emotions, for the creative process, or for inner transformation. The artist does not offer definitive answers—she leaves space for interpretation, inviting the viewer to embark on their own path of discovering meaning.
