Echo

The painting “Echo” by Magdalena Nowatkowska from the “In-Between” series compellingly embodies the artist's conceptual approach to the theme of space—both between objects and spaces themselves. The composition, characteristic of the series' minimalist style, features several simple yet impactful elements: a predominantly white background, a darker stripe on the right side, and a subtle accent at the bottom of the painting that stirs the imagination.

The dominant white area on the canvas symbolizes unfilled space, potential, and that which is invisible yet significant. The contrasting dark areas may suggest that this is not a final state but rather a metaphor for what will come, for the past.

The current state is often a transient, fleeting moment of the present.

Small elements positioned on the edges of the painting represent a distant, understated story; we know less about them than about the dominating, pure, white, and empty space between them.

The titular “echo” refers to the echo of the future.
