Before and after
“Before and After” is an evocative, minimalist composition that explores themes of transformation, human relationships, and the limits of communication. Against a warm pink-brown background, geometrized human figures are arranged, reduced to simple lines and right angles, resembling the letters “L” or “Γ”. Each figure ends with a head—white or black—creating a striking contrast and symbolic division. Though sharing the same space, the figures remain separate, facing each other or turned away, their linear bodies often seeming to reach toward another person, yet never quite making contact. This generates an atmosphere of tension, estrangement, and unfinished dialogue.
The painting serves as a metaphor for life “before and after”—after loss, after the pandemic, after an emotional or social turning point. The bodies, constructed from elongated, architectural lines, suggest that people have been reduced to functions, roles, or systemic units. At the same time, these seemingly simple shapes are subtly organic, imperfect—as if pulsing with emotion that cannot be fully expressed.
“Before and After” can be read as a story about the impossibility of complete encounter with another person, about the barriers—both physical and psychological—that divide the “before” and the “after.” It is a reflective work, visually restrained yet symbolically dense, inviting contemplation on what separates people even within a seemingly shared space.
