Supreme Council
“Supreme Council” is a visual metaphor of politics, power, and the systemic restrictions imposed on women. The artist draws attention to places like Iran or Afghanistan, where women’s rights and freedoms are often brutally suppressed.
By depicting symbolic figures arranged in rows reminiscent of parliamentary benches, the artist juxtaposes two contrasting worlds: oppressive mechanisms of control and the concept of women’s strength and unity. Small, rhythmically placed objects on a delicate pink background evoke a simplified, repetitive form, symbolizing femininity—which often becomes the object of oppression and control. Arranged in orderly rows, these small breast-like forms suggest a structured system reminiscent of an institution. A parliament? It’s a metaphor for power, only here it is women who occupy the seats—an original women’s parliament where decisions affecting women’s lives are made by women themselves, rather than, as so often happens, without their voice.
A composition recalling parliamentary benches reinforces the idea of a decision-making space. Placing these “figures” in neat rows underscores the theme of power and representation. Meanwhile, the pastel tones evoke a sense of delicacy, contrasting ironically with the brutality of oppression. A minimalist aesthetic amplifies the work’s universal message, eliminating unnecessary details and focusing attention on its structure and hidden narrative.
The painting expresses rebellion against patriarchal systems that limit women’s rights. Depicting symbols of femininity in a space typically reserved for men is a provocative shift in perspective—here, women “take over” the institutions of power, reversing traditional roles. In a subtle way, the artist critiques and questions the absurdities of oppressive social norms.
“Supreme Council” offers a penetrating commentary on power, constraints, and the control exerted over women’s bodies and lives. At first glance, the work appears minimalist and straightforward, yet it carries a multi-layered message of emancipation, rebellion, and the need for equality. The artist creates a space in which women symbolically “sit” in decision-making benches, showing an alternative reality where they have full rights to freedom and self-determination.
